A cookie is a small text file a site saves on your device, so that it can remember something about your visit. In itself it is neither good nor bad — what matters is what it is for.

This site uses as few cookies as it can: one that remembers your consent choice and, if you accept analytics, two from Google.

How you decide

On your first visit a banner appears with two equally prominent choices: accept and decline. Declining is exactly as easy as accepting, and neither choice changes how the site works.

Until you decide, no analytics cookie is set. Analytics starts only once you accept it.

Which cookies are set

The necessary cookie

This one is set without consent, because without it I could not remember your choice and the banner would appear on every page.

roj_consent — remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics. Set by this site. Duration: six months.

Analytics cookies

These are set only if you accept them. They come from Google Analytics and they let me see how many people read which page and where they came from. I cannot see who you are or what you do beyond this site.

_ga — distinguishes one visitor from another. Duration: two years.
_ga_ followed by the measurement ID — holds the state of the visit. Duration: two years.

Individual visit data in Google Analytics is kept for fourteen months, the longest period that tool allows.

What this site does not do

No advertising cookies. I do not advertise through this site and I do not follow you across other sites.
No social media cookies. The Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn links in the footer are ordinary links — nothing loads until you click them.
No embedded video or other content that would set third-party cookies.

The one exception worth naming is the fonts from Google Fonts. They set no cookies, but they load from Google's servers, so Google sees your IP address in the process. That happens as the page opens, before you decide anything.

Clearing cookies in your browser

Besides the choice on this site, you can clear and block cookies directly in your browser. The setting usually sits under „Privacy and security“:

Edge — Settings, Cookies and site permissions

Blocking every cookie on this site breaks nothing. The only consequence is that the consent banner appears again on your next visit.

I update this policy when the tools I use change. The date of the last change sits at the top of the page.
