Home organization for moving in Zagreb — organized relocation and decluttering support

Moving is not just a change of address. It is one of the few moments in life when everything you own passes through your hands — and you get to decide what comes with you.

A calm, structured approach to residential relocation — from letting go to settling in

Moving is one of life's major transitions. Whether you are relocating across town or starting a new chapter elsewhere, this service is designed to reduce overwhelm and bring clarity, structure, and ease to the entire process.

With thoughtful planning and moving day organization, your home relocation does not need to feel chaotic or exhausting. Instead, it can become a conscious and supported transition into your next home. This service provides practical and emotional relocation support throughout the moving process.

I offer moving organization and decluttering support based in Zagreb, working with clients across Croatia and internationally, both in person and through virtual move coaching.

When moving organization and decluttering support can help

This service can be especially helpful when a move feels overwhelming or when you want your relocation process to feel calm, organized, and intentional rather than rushed and chaotic.

It may be particularly supportive if you are:

  • moving to a new home and want to start fresh with a minimalist approach
  • relocating with family and want the transition to feel calmer for everyone
  • managing a busy schedule and need a professional move organizer
  • downsizing to a smaller home and unsure how to decide what to keep
  • moving for work and wanting your new workspace to function smoothly from the beginning

With the right structure and support, moving can become a clear and manageable transition rather than a stressful disruption.

Phase one: Decluttering before the move

Boxes sorted for donation during decluttering before a move in Zagreb

We begin well before moving day with decluttering, helping reduce what needs to be packed and transported.

This step is essential — not only to reduce items and moving cost, but to create a sense of closure and readiness for the next chapter ahead.

As we work through your belongings, many clients find themselves gently letting go of past versions of their lives and making space for what they wish to carry forward. Decluttering before moving becomes a way of preparing not just your home, but yourself, for the future you are stepping into.

Alongside this emotional and reflective layer, the process remains grounded and practical. We approach decluttering in a clear and structured way:

  • We work through your belongings by category, deciding what to keep, donate, sell, or discard responsibly.
  • This process often significantly reduces moving costs and storage needs.
  • Unpacking becomes lighter and more intentional when you are surrounded only by items you love and use.
  • Decluttering before moving creates a true fresh start rather than carrying old clutter into a new home.

Phase two: Thoughtful packing and moving day support

Professional packing is approached as part of a clear moving inventory system rather than a rushed, last-minute task.

  • I use a clear labeling and inventory system so every box is marked with its destination room, contents, and unpacking priority.
  • Color-coding and numbering systems ensure you always know what is where.

"First day" boxes are created for each room, containing essential items you will need immediately — such as toilet paper and hand soap for bathrooms, a coffee maker and basic dishes for the kitchen, and sheets and pillows for bedrooms. These boxes are clearly labelled and loaded last, so they are the first to be unpacked in your new home.

For families with children, we also prepare moving-day comfort kits with familiar items, snacks, and activities to help them feel secure during the transition.

If desired, I can be present on moving day to coordinate with movers, ensure boxes are placed in the correct rooms, oversee the handling of fragile items and handle any last-minute decisions — allowing you to focus on the emotional side of leaving one home and arriving in another.

Phase three: Organizing your new home

Setting up your new home is more than simply unpacking boxes.

Every home comes with its own layout, storage opportunities, and challenges. Your new kitchen may have different cabinet configurations, or your bedroom might include an unusual closet shape. Together, we adapt your organizational systems to fit the space you have, problem-solving calmly and practically so everything works beautifully in everyday life.

Once you arrive, we focus on organized unpacking:

  • We begin with essential spaces such as the kitchen, main bedroom, and bathroom for a fast move-in.
  • Storage systems are adapted to your new layout, taking into account different cabinet configurations, closets, and spatial challenges.
  • Every item is given a clear and logical home, helping your new space quickly become an organized home instead of months of living among boxes.

Follow-up support is also available to fine-tune your home setup, as living in a new space often reveals small adjustments that help systems work even better over time. Perhaps the spot chosen for your coffee maker does not work as well as expected, or you realize you need a different system for mail and paperwork. I remain available so your home continues to grow into a space that truly feels like yours.

What if you are moving to a smaller home?

Empty room after a move, ready for a fresh start — downsizing support in Zagreb

If you are downsizing, this is often a very different kind of journey — one that involves more emotional letting go than people expect. I provide specialized downsizing support to help you create comfort, beauty, and joy with far fewer items, so your smaller square footage feels spacious and intentional.

Each item we consider together carries memories, dreams, or pieces of your identity. Deciding what belongs in your next chapter requires both courage and compassion.

What I have witnessed time and again with downsizing clients is that this process does not just result in a well-organized smaller home. It often reveals a new version of themselves — one they did not even know existed. Many discover they are braver than they thought, more decisive than they imagined, and capable of creating comfort, beauty, and joy with far less than they ever believed possible. The transformation goes far beyond square footage.

Workplace and corporate relocation support

Work-related moves often require additional structure and professional relocation support. These transitions come with added pressure — tight timelines, high expectations, and the need to stay productive while everything else is in transition.

  • I support you in setting up your home office or work environment as a priority, so you can return to work with clarity and focus.
  • When needed, I coordinate with relocation services to ensure the moving process runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Workflow organization systems are put in place early, helping you regain a sense of structure and rhythm as quickly as possible.

This support helps protect both your professional focus and your personal well-being during demanding transitions. The intention is to help you move through this transition with clarity, support, and a sense of continuity — so your new space can begin to feel like home sooner.

What you gain: a sustainable lifestyle

The result is not only a smoother move, but a home or workspace that is organized from the very beginning:

  • a clearer, lighter move without unnecessary belongings
  • a structured and calm relocation process
  • fewer moving-day surprises and less last-minute stress
  • a new home that is clutter-free, organized, and functional from the very beginning
  • the emotional closure of one chapter and a clear start to the next

Instead of spending months living among boxes, you arrive in a home that already feels settled, organized, and ready to support your everyday life.

One family's move

Root of Joy is a professional organizing service that exceeded my expectations. I hired Petra to assist in moving our family from Zagreb to Vienna. After one meeting, Petra organized, packed, supervised the movers and then unpacked the entire contents of our apartment in Vienna. And all this was done while I was overseas. Due to her care and attention to detail, she turned a very stressful life event into a manageable and rewarding experience.

Root of Joy is an example of everything good in a service company: clear communication about costs and outcomes, trustworthy, with a specific focus on the relationship between client and provider.

I hope to have the opportunity to work with Petra again.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start organizing before a move?

Ideally, we begin four to eight weeks before moving day. This allows enough time to declutter thoughtfully, without the pressure of last-minute decisions. For larger homes or significant downsizing, more time is always better.

Do you help with packing on moving day?

Yes. I can be present on moving day to coordinate with movers, make sure boxes go to the correct rooms, and handle any last-minute decisions.

Can you help if I am moving outside Croatia?

Absolutely. I have organized moves abroad, to other cities, and to the islands, so I know where a move like that tends to get complicated. I work with clients across Croatia and beyond, both in person and through virtual move coaching — distance does not change the quality of support.

How is this different from hiring a moving company?

A moving company transports your belongings, and that is their job. What sits outside it is the decision of what is worth taking at all, careful packing with a clear labeling system, and organizing your new home so it works from day one rather than months later. That is where I come in — often alongside the movers, not instead of them.

How to work with me

A one-hour consultation is for you if you are organizing the move yourself but want a professional read on it. We go through your move and I tell you what to do in what order, so you can carry on alone.

If you would rather have me alongside you, I provide support from start to finish — decluttering before the move, packing systems, and organizing your new home once you arrive.
