Donation pickup and rehoming in Zagreb — every category goes where it is needed
The hardest part of decluttering is rarely the deciding. It is the four bags in the hallway that stay there for weeks because nobody knows where to take them.
You decide what goes. I take it away and find the right place for each category.
Most decluttering stops at the front door. The decisions are made, the bags are packed, and then everything waits — because taking books to one place, clothes to another, and a chair to a third takes a free afternoon most people do not have.
This service closes that gap. I load everything into my car, drive it away, and pass each category on to a place that actually needs it. Nothing is thrown away that someone could still use.
It can follow a decluttering session or stand on its own, if you have already sorted everything yourself and only need it gone.
When donation pickup can help
This service helps when:
- the bags have been sitting in the hallway or the car boot for weeks
- you have no car, or nothing that fits a wardrobe or an armchair
- you would rather your things were used than destroyed
- you are moving and everything has to be gone by a fixed date
- you are clearing a home after a death or a move to care, and cannot face the driving
- you simply want the decision to be finished, not stored
Until things leave the house, the decision is not really made. That is why this step matters more than it looks.
How it works
The pickup itself is four steps:
- We sort what is leaving by category — clothes, books, kitchenware, toys, furniture, textiles. Sorting is what makes rehoming possible at all.
- I match each category to a place that takes it and needs it. That is rarely one address — it is usually three or four.
- I load everything into my own car and drive it myself. There is no middleman handling your things.
- When it is done, you get a short confirmation of what went where.
Anything that genuinely cannot be rehomed — broken, unusable, beyond repair — goes to the proper recycling or disposal point rather than back into your hallway.
Where things actually go
The destination depends entirely on what it is. Most things go to Reto centar. Textiles and clothing go to Humana Nova, books to libraries, toys and children's things to children's homes, and blankets and towels to shelters and animal welfare associations.
Reto centar is a centre for addiction treatment and rehabilitation, and its programme is built around work. Used furniture is repaired and restored there, appliances are serviced, and the items then move on through their second-hand shop. So your chest of drawers does not simply find another home — someone is rebuilding their own life through the work of repairing it.
Sometimes the right place is more specific than any of those — stamps to a collector, cups to a kintsugi artist for repair, a painting to a small gallery. Those matches take longer to find, and they are the ones that make the difference between donating and simply disposing.
Where each category goes is always agreed with you in advance. If you want something to go to a particular place, or specifically not somewhere, that is your decision and I respect it.
How this differs from bulky waste collection
Zagreb households can order bulky waste collection from Čistoća free of charge — a limited number of times a year, up to a limited volume, under the terms Čistoća publishes. It is a good service and worth using for what genuinely is waste.
It is a different thing from this, in four ways:
- Bulky waste is destroyed. A working armchair and a broken one end up in the same place.
- It has to be ordered and waited for — the collection is scheduled for a later date, not arranged for the same week.
- A large clearance often exceeds what a single collection covers.
- Clothes, books, toys and kitchenware are not bulky waste, so they stay your problem.
This service exists for the other case: when the things still have life in them, when there are several categories at once, and when you want it finished this week rather than in three.
What you gain: a sustainable lifestyle
This service exists for the other case. For the chair someone can still sit in, the dishes someone can still eat from, the clothes someone is waiting for. When things still have life in them, disposing of them is a waste — handing them on is not.
- things used by someone who needs them instead of destroyed
- no driving, no phoning around, no waiting to be home for a collection
- less waste, and a smaller footprint from the same amount of decluttering
- the knowledge that your things made someone else's everyday life easier, instead of ending up as waste

Frequently asked questions
How much does the pickup cost?
Pickup costs €30 per drive within Zagreb, regardless of how many destinations are involved. If everything does not fit into one drive, we agree the number in advance. Outside Zagreb the price depends on the distance.
Is there a limit to how much you take?
No. If it does not fit in one drive, it goes in two. Larger clearances are simply planned across more trips.
Do I need to be home?
For the handover, yes — I want you to see what is leaving. After that, the driving is mine.
What if something cannot be donated?
I tell you before I take it. Nothing leaves under the impression that it is being donated when it is actually going to be disposed of.
How to work with me
Donation pickup most often follows a decluttering session, when everything is already sorted and the decisions are fresh.
It can also be booked on its own. If you have already done the sorting yourself and only need it taken away and rehomed properly, that works just as well.
