Clothing decluttering with the KonMari method — professional home organization in Zagreb

Home decluttering and tidying are the foundation of my work as a professional organizer and the starting point for creating a home that feels lighter, clearer, and easier to live in.

My approach is rooted in the world-renowned KonMari® method, and every session is adapted to your pace, your needs, and your unique lifestyle.

As the first certified KonMari® consultant in Croatia and the only one with a Master certificate, I offer professional decluttering and home organization services based in Zagreb, working with clients across Croatia and internationally, both in person and through virtual organizing sessions.

When home decluttering and tidying can help

This home decluttering service is for you if your home feels heavy, overwhelming, or difficult to maintain, and you long for a space that feels lighter and more supportive.

As a professional home organizer, I help you navigate:

  • periods of transition such as moving, downsizing, renovating, or starting a new chapter
  • managing a busy household where you need smart, sustainable storage solutions
  • adjusting to a new life rhythm - whether living independently for the first time, moving in with your partner or welcoming a child
  • holding onto belongings connected to loss, grief, or past versions of yourself
  • wanting your hobbies, interests, or everyday routines to feel easier and better supported by an organized home

You don't need to feel „ready“ or know where to begin — the process meets you exactly where you are.

Over time, the clarity created through this process naturally becomes part of how you live in and care for your home.

If this resonates with you and you feel ready to start, a free 20-minute call is often the easiest first step.

How the home decluttering process works

Think of it as a professional home edit — not about quick fixes, harsh decisions, or being told what to throw away. It is a gentle, structured, and deeply personal process — designed for those moments when your home feels overwhelming, heavy, or difficult to maintain.

Together, we create a home that truly supports the life you are living now - not the one you lived years ago, and not the one you feel you should live.

My approach combines the KonMari method with years of hands-on experience in space optimization and home organization, working with people across different life stages, emotional situations, and household dynamics. Every session is tailored to your pace, your needs, and your comfort level. There is no pressure, no judgment, and no rushing.

Our work together unfolds in two phases:

  • Phase 1 — we work with your belongings through intentional decluttering
  • Phase 2 — we move on to organizing the space itself — including wardrobes, drawers, shelves, organizers, and custom storage solutions

Phase one: decluttering your belongings by category

Clothing sorting and decluttering by category — KonMari method Zagreb

We begin with category-based decluttering — a core principle of the KonMari method. Instead of going room by room, we work through one category at a time, gathering everything that belongs to it in one place. This allows you to see the full picture and make clear, intentional decisions.

We move through the categories in following order:

  • Clothes
  • Books
  • Papers
  • Komono — miscellaneous items such as kitchenware, electronics, toiletries, décor, and tools
  • Sentimental items

Instead of asking „What should I get rid of?“, we gently shift the focus toward a more meaningful question: „What do I want to keep — and why?“

This is not about discarding. It is a conscious, intentional act of choosing what stays. I guide you to surround yourself with items that genuinely:

  • spark joy and uplift your spirit
  • serve a clear functional purpose and support your life today

At the same time, I help you recognize items that are kept out of guilt, obligation, fear, or „just in case“ thinking — and we address these patterns with practical strategies and emotional clarity, so decisions feel calm and confident rather than overwhelming.

This approach creates sustainable change and prevents the rebound effect. Items are no longer moved from one place to another — they are either given a proper home or gently released through donation, recycling, or responsible disposal.

KonMari categories explained

Wardrobe organization and clothing decluttering using the KonMari method in Zagreb

Clothing ~ decluttering and organization

We work through your wardrobe to identify clothes that fit your current identity, body, and personal style — while releasing items that no longer serve you. This process often uncovers forgotten favorites and brings awareness to shopping habits, making future choices more intentional. Remaining clothes are organized using the KonMari folding method or other systems that feel natural to you, creating a setup that makes daily dressing easier and more enjoyable.

Books ~ decluttering and organization

Book decluttering is about curating a collection that reflects who you are today. We identify books you truly love, reference, or wish to keep close — while allowing others to find new readers. The result is a collection that feels inspiring rather than overwhelming.

Paper ~ decluttering and organization

Paper clutter is one of the most common sources of stress. I help you create clear, manageable filing systems for important documents, incoming mail, school papers, everyday paperwork and digital files — so nothing piles up, yet everything important is easy to find.

Komono (Miscellaneous) ~ decluttering and organization

Komono covers all the everyday items that support daily life — approximately 20 subcategories, from kitchenware and toiletries to electronics, tools, decorative objects, and household supplies. In many homes, this category quietly accumulates items that seemed useful at the time of purchase but are rarely used.

Together, we identify what is genuinely useful and release duplicates, broken items, and purchases that didn't live up to expectations — all while building practical, intuitive storage solutions. Because this category is broad, we approach it slowly and in a way that feels manageable.

Sentimental items ~ decluttering and organization

This stage is approached with particular care. I support you in honoring meaningful memories while letting go of objects that may be tied to guilt or past versions of yourself. When needed, we explore alternative ways to preserve memories — such as memory boxes, digitalization, or thoughtful display.

The emotional side of decluttering

Professional home organizing is as much about the heart as it is about the space.

Letting go can evoke a wide range of emotions — from nostalgia and guilt to obligation or even a sense of loss. My role extends far beyond simply guiding you on what to keep or discard; it's about providing a compassionate, non-judgmental, and deeply supportive space for you to navigate and respect these complex feelings.

Through gentle conversation and attentive listening, we explore the stories behind your belongings and allow insight, mental clarity, and peace to emerge naturally.

We may also gently notice whether the attachment patterns you experience with your belongings reflect broader patterns in other areas of your life — offering insights that extend well beyond the physical space, and that is where the deeper shift begins.

Phase two: Space optimization and storage solutions

Organized bookshelves with neatly arranged books — space optimization and storage solutions in a Zagreb home

Once decluttering is complete, we move into space optimization — organizing what remains within your physical space and creating practical home organization systems that are easy to maintain.

Together, we redesign the space around what you actually own and how you actually move through your day. I help you redesign rooms and create intuitive storage solutions making every centimetre feel functional or breathable. We identify common clutter hotspots, create clear homes for everything you own, and establish simple, sustainable routines that prevent clutter from returning.

The goal is not perfection — it is an organized home that feels natural to maintain and quietly supports your everyday life.

What you gain: a sustainable lifestyle

The result is not only a tidy space, but also a sustainable home organization system that makes everyday life easier.

  • a calmer, clutter free and functional home
  • more clarity about what you own and why you keep it
  • smart storage solutions and less mental load
  • a deeper connection to your home and belongings
  • easier daily routines and long-term habits that prevent clutter from returning

Your home becomes an organized home that supports you — quietly and consistently.

A client's experience

Petra did her job excellently. I am very satisfied and pleasantly surprised. She did everything quickly and exactly as agreed. We started on Monday and by Thursday we had finished three categories. After decluttering and organising clothes, bed linen and accessories, I was left with empty shelves and drawers. I recommend her to anyone who needs to put their flat or house in order.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the decluttering process take?

It depends on the size of your home, how much you own, and the pace at which you make decisions, but most full KonMari processes unfold over several weeks to a few months. Generally, a single category — such as clothing or books — can take three to five days, with sessions of three to five hours each.

Do I have to follow the KonMari method exactly?

No. While my approach is rooted in the KonMari® method, every session is adapted to your pace, your needs, and your situation. If a different approach works better for you, we adjust accordingly.

Will you make me throw things away?

Never. Every decision about what stays and what goes is entirely yours. My role is to help you see your belongings more clearly and make decisions that feel calm and confident — not to pressure you into discarding anything.

Can we work together virtually?

Yes. I offer virtual organizing sessions for clients across Croatia and internationally. The process works well online — we work through one category at a time, and I guide you through each decision in real time.
